Matt Siorek brought the #28 Kenda Tire Starmont Manufacturing/Star Tool & Die PRO-Light to compete on the biggest stage in short-course off-road racing, “The Big House”, Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. The effort from Siorek Racing showed the competition they have the never give up attitude that will make them a team that will be fighting for a podium in the near future.
The TORC “Keys to the Big House”/Crandon World Cup Weekend began on Thursdayas the PRO racers had three scheduled practice sessions. Matt and his team worked on chassis set-up throughout the day and then cleaned up the truck for the big Friday morning parade in Downtown Crandon.
Saturday morning saw the team running a solid qualifying effort ensuring a front row starting position for the afternoon Round 11 land rush start. The time on the track was not without incident as a rock took out a brake caliper and rotor on the final lap of qualifying. Once back at the Siorek Racing pit area, the team went took work replacing the damaged parts. Then as the session was complete a heavy rain shower swept through the Crandon area making race preparations just a bit more difficult.
TORC Round 11
The land rush starts saw the white Kenda Tire PRO-Light stay clear of any hard contact and cleanly exited Turn One. By the midway mandatory caution, Siorek was running mid-pack. Then late in the race, the changing track conditions, saw the #28Kenda Tire Starmont Manufacturing/Star Tool & Die PRO-Light lose some of its handling and braking ability. Undaunted Matt Siorek soldiered on to a ninth place finish.
Initially Siorek didn’t have the components to repair the brake issue, but thanks to the support of his fellow competitors, the parts were found and the race truck was ready for the Sunday morning qualifying session. The three lap session became more of a shakedown session rather than an all out sprint for starting position.
All fifteen trucks lined up all in one row for the second annual Crandon World Cup. The expanded PRO-Light field saw several racers from the LOORS group making it a true North American event. Matt Siorek made a very respectable run finishing eighth in the fifteen truck field.
“This weekend as a real test not only me as a driver, but my team as they worked hard keeping the truck on the track,” commented Matt Siorek. “At one point I was ready to call it a weekend after Saturday’s race, but my guys were up to the challenge. The past five days was really all about being prepared for the unexpected. Our team never gave up. I was able to make a lot of laps around the track and that experience will definitely help next year. In Sunday’s race were we still dealing with a brake issue and I believe our finish would have been a bit better with proper stopping power. Now it’s time to get ready for the Kenda Tire Final Rounds in Minnesota. Hopefully returning to ERX for the third time (includes a preseason test session) will pay dividends for Siorek Racing.”
As mentioned, the final stop of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL is September 22-24 in Elk River, Minnesota.
