The second stop on the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL tour saw PRO-Light driver Matt Siorek experience some of the typical trials and tribulations of a rookie PRO competitor. The Kenda Tire supported racer continued to gather important feedback from the race truck and apply to improve the lap time during the two days in at Elk River Motor Park
The crew from Northern Indiana had some chassis set-up information already in hand thanks to the day long preseason test session Kenda Tire scheduled in early May. With that said Siorek went out for Friday’s practice session looking to close the gap between himself and the “regulars” in the PRO-Light class.
As Matt made more and more passes around the 7/8 mile long circuit, the truck was noticeably quicker as the time passed on. Then it happened during Saturday morning session, the #28 Kenda Tire truck caught a rut coming through the hi-speed Talladega Turn putting Siorek on his roof. Quickly the safety crew put the Kenda Tires back on the ground and without much fanfare the rookie driver was able to complete the practice session at full speed.
Once back at the hauler, Siorek and the team found only cosmetic damage to the fiberglass body. With that said, final preparations for the afternoon fourteen lap race went on as scheduled.
Round 3 saw the #29 Kenda Tire Starmont Manufacturing PRO-Light run consistent laps to finish the race in sixth place.
The team decided to use Sunday morning to fully prep the race for the late afternoon Round 4 race, but before any work was started a severe storm came barreling through the Elk River area caused substantial damage to the race track and several teams. Fortunately, Matt and his team were spared. Thankfully nobody was serious hurt and TORC rescheduled Round 4 for later in the season.
“I knew this season would be a huge learning experience,” remarked Matt Siorek. “As long as myself and the team can take something positive from every weekend, our results will improve as the season progresses. This weekend I was more comfortable behind the wheel of the truck. We also found out how tough this truck is built. After the high speed roll, the motor fired right up and continued to make laps like nothing happened. Thanks again to my mom and dad, my crew, Mike from Kenda Tire and the other teams for helping with advice and insight.”
As mentioned, the next stop of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL is June 23-24 at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway.
