Matt Siorek finished off the 2017 TORC Series presented by AMSOIL with a trip to Elk River Motor Park (ERX) for the final three rounds of the season. The rookie PRO-Light racer continued his progression to become a competitor capable of finishing on the podium every time the #28 Kenda Tire Starmont Manufacturing/Star Tool & Die truck takes to the track.
The .9-mile long permanent short-course track would host the TORC racers for the second time this season. Back in June, Siorek finished sixth in Round 3 as Round 4 was postponed to the final weekend season, making it a three race stop at ERX.
Friday’s Round 3 action would see Matt Siorek put in his best effort of the season. In the first half of the fourteen lap race, Siorek was in the third place podium position when a flat tire required a trip to the hot pits. The unscheduled stop put the Kenda Tire truck at the back of the pack, but the young driver battled back to take sixth place at the checkered flag.
Saturday’s Round 12 would see an early battle with Kenda Tire teammate Chad Rayford. Then with two laps to go, Siorek had moved into the third position. As the white Kenda Tire PRO-Light headed for the white flag, the truck caught a rut and went upside down. The incident ended the day for Matt Siorek with a seventh place finish.
The damage to the truck wasn’t terminal as the team repaired a couple of body panels, thoroughly checked out the powerplant, and make a few more shock adjustments. Siorek was race to race before the team headed to bed.
The opening lap Matt Siorek took a hard door slam from another competitor and made a great save preventing a rollover heading into the sand section. From that point forward Matt Siorek dealt with an ill handling truck, but continued on to take the flag in seventh place.
“We started the season not knowing how well we would measure up with the veterans in the class,” commented Matt Siorek. “It was a steep learning curve and we still have a way to go, but we proved as we progressed through the season that we will be a contender very soon. This weekend I put my crew through a lot and we showed we could get to the top three. Now we need to stay there once we reach the top three. I have to thank my mom and dad for helping with our program. Thanks goes out to Will and all my guys for working late nights, never giving up and always keeping me pumped up and ready to go racing. Thanks to Mike Higgs from Kenda Tire, the guys at Starmont Manufacturing and Star Tool, and all my other sponsors. I’m really looking for to the 2018 season.”
For the season Matt Siorek finished seventh in the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL PRO-Light Championship. The season included three top five finishes.
