Marquardt Family on the Podium

August 24, 2017

Kennedy Third on Saturday / Sam Second on Sunday

The Marquardt family had a stellar weekend at the TORC – Rumble at Red Bud as both Kennedy and Sam raced their way to the podium during the weekend at Red Bud MX. The performance kept Sam at the top of the Short Course Kart Championship standings as Kennedy moved up to sixth overall in the hotly contested points chase.

The newly created .9 mile long Red Bud TORC short-course track with all its elevation changes was a definite challenge for the twelve young racers that made the trek to southwest Michigan. For the most part, the track design kept the racing close and tight all weekend long for the youngest of the TORC competitors.

Saturday’s Round Nine saw a great race between the Marquardt siblings. Throughout the entire six lap race, Sam and Kennedy ran door to door, bumper to bumper as Kennedy had a slight edge over her younger brother. Sam continually tried just about every type of move he could think of, but Kennedy continually held off every advance. When the checkered flag was raised, Kennedy would finish in third place, her best finish of the season. Meanwhile Sam finished about three feet behind in fourth. Needless to say the Marquardt family had a great celebration.

The next afternoon, saw the Marquardt family once again running side by side in the early going. The second half of the race Sam found his groove and began moving toward the front of the field. The class points leader made all the way to second place when the checkered flag came out. The second place finish on the day kept Sam Marquardt in first place in the Short Course Karts Championship. Kennedy has another solid finish crossing the line in seventh place.

“Sam really had to work for every spot this weekend,” remarked team leader and dad, Cory Marquardt. “His sister didn’t give him any slack and her effort put her on the podium for the first time this year. The racing in the class has been really close with all of the kids and everyone involved has made sure every driver is having fun on and off the track. I know my kids are very competitive, but we make sure we do this as a family and keep everything in perspective.”

There are four more rounds of racing are still on the schedule. The next two rounds will be September 1-2, in Crandon, Wisconsin. If you can’t make it to Crandon in person, the entire weekend race program is broadcast live at torcseries.com.
