Kleiman Off-Road Racing completed the 2016 short course off-road season with another solid performance at the season ending Crandon Off-Road World Championships. The Kleiman brothers raced in front of a record crowd at “The Big House” as the Ponsse Cooper Tire sponsored PRO-Light trucks with Kyle taking home the $10,000 first place prize in the inaugural Crandon World Cup. Thanks to the success of the two-truck team this season, Kyle and Cody Kleiman will be the drivers to watch during the 2017 TORC season.
The final weekend of racing saw the TORC season complete its thirteen race season on Saturday as the Sunday program would feature the Crandon World Cup races for all the PRO classes.
The weekend began with a three lap qualifying session that saw Kyle Kleiman stop the clocks fourth fastest and Cody Kleiman would turn the thirteenth quickest lap in the twenty truck field. Amazingly the top sixteen trucks qualified within two seconds of each other.
Saturday’s TORC season finale saw Kyle’s #42 Ponsse Ironhorse Loggers Cooper Tire PRO-Light contend for a podium spot during the nine lap race. Kyle had a great race as he, Kyle Hart, and Travis Dinsmore came across the finish line door to door. It was the closest top three finish in TORC history, as only 0.28 seconds separated the first place from third place Kyle Kleiman.
The #48 of Cody Kleiman got caught up with some opening lap traffic, but battled back to finish thirteenth.
For the season, Kyle Kleiman finished second overall and Cody Kleiman finished ninth overall in the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL PRO-Light Championship.
Overnight the crew went to work preparing for the inaugural Crandon World Cup. The nine lap Sunday afternoon race once again saw Kyle running in the top three the entire race. As the laps wound down, Kyle was stalking leader Travis Dinsmore. As the two headed into the final lap, the #42 Ponsse Ironhorse Loggers Cooper Tire truck dove inside of Dinsmore and grabbed lead heading out of Calamity Corner. The rest of the field couldn’t catch the yellow truck as Kyle Kleiman takes home the $10,000 first place check. Meanwhile Cody Kleiman was running just three positions behind Kyle when just past the halfway point of the race, another competitor tagged the yellow and white Ponsse Cooper Tire truck resulting in a ninth place finish.
“I got off to a tough start with a bad incident in a practice session just days before Chicago,” commented Cody Kleiman. “Fortunately dad offered his truck to me to keep me on the track. Early on I was learning the old truck and it took a while to get comfortable. Then we got my truck back, but again we were a bit behind getting the handling right. It was great to get back on the podium in Charlotte. I really look forward to next year. Again thanks to my family and friends for their support of our team.”
“The season was more than I could ever expect,” remarked Kyle Kleiman. “It was a great season battling with Kyle Hart, Travis Dinsmore, and Luke Johnson. Even though
we raced each other hard every weekend, we are friends off the track. Heck when Kyle Hart needed a tire during a race in Charlotte, we gave them ours to keep him in the race. Not going to Texas cost us some points, but you can’t look back. Thanks to my family and friends for all the support as well as all our sponsors for allowing our team to race for the TORC championship. Of course thanks to Crandon for creating the World Cup.”
