Cody and Kyle land on the Podium in all Three Rounds at ERX
The final weekend of racing at Elk River Motor Park was named as the Final Rounds, but by the time the three days of racing was complete, the weekend could be named the “Kleiman Rounds of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL. The three rounds of racing in the TORC PRO-Light division saw the Kleiman brothers running at or near the front of the pack all weekend long. The dominating weekend was the final exclamation point on the season where Kyle Kleiman won the season long Championship with brother Cody finishing the schedule second overall.
The three rounds of racing at ERX included the scheduled rounds 12 and 13 along with the postponed Round 4 from earlier in the year.
Friday’s fourteen lap race saw Cody take the lead in the race after lap two with Kyle pushing hard to catch his older brother. Then after the caution Cody had a left front tire go flat allowing Kyle to take the top spot all the way to the finish. Meanwhile Cody was still running very quick lap times and crossed the finish line in third place. The Ponsse Maxxis Tire PRO-Light duo put plenty of black and yellow on the celebration stage on the weekend’s first trip to the podium.
The Saturday morning qualifiying session saw the Kleiman brothers handle the challenging track quite well with Kyle taking the top spot as Cody was only 0.04 seconds back as the number two qualifier for the afternoon race.
Saturday’s Round 12 saw the Kyle and Cody show once again race to the front of the field with Kyle having the early advantage. On lap eight Kyle made a slight mistake and Cody was there to capitalize and take over the top spot. Then with only two laps to go, Kyle retook the lead and the win as Cody was right behind in second.
The Round 12 win garnered enough points for Kyle Kleiman to take the 2017 TORC PRO-Light Championship.
Sunday’s final round of racing was nearly identical to the two previous races, except this the Kleiman brothers were trying to chase down the holeshot winner Chad Rayford. Kyle ran close to Rayford’s rear bumper all race long only to come up 0.23 seconds short of the win. At the same time Cody was in a fierce late race battle with Shawn Morris which ended with a third place finish for the #48 Ponsse Maxxis Tire PRO-Light.
“Wow what weekend, what a season,” commented Kyle Kleiman. “The final race was so much fun going bumper to bumper with Rayford and we almost pulled it off. It’s great to see him take his first win. This season is what my dad dreamed of when Cody and I took over the driving duties. It’s truly a family effort. We are loggers, our family works together and races together. Longtime friends and girlfriends make up our crew and no matter what happens, there are never any complaints. Even our sponsor Ponsse is like family to us. Aaron from Maxxis along with his team are just great. All the local support in the UP is just awesome. Cody and I are fortunate to have such great people around us.”
“This year has just been great not only for myself and Kyle, but the entire team,” added Cody Kleiman. “We are blessed to have great parents, great family and great friends. We do this together and no matter what happens at the track or in shop, our team just supports one another. Like Kyle mentioned, without partners like Ponsse and Maxxis Tire this season would not be possible. All the other companies that support us with products and services are just as important to make everything click. Man when we get back home, we are definitely going to have one heck of party!”
