The Crandon World Cup weekend saw Gabe Johnson run strong early on during both rounds of racing only to finish outside of the podium. The young UTV racer understands that the competition never rests between races and that is never more true when it comes to racing at “The Big House.”
Both Round 11 and Round 12 saw the familiar AMOR Steel and Metal Maxxis Tire Vision Wheel Polaris get great land rush starts only to work hard trying to fend off the competition. The net result was a ninth and eight place finish respectively.
Afterwards Gabe and his dad Paul were able to spend time with the reigning PRO MOD UTV Champion Travis Poytner discussing all aspects of the team’s program. The lengthy input from Poytner will definitely improve the team’s performance heading into the season finale at ERX.
“Throughout the middle of the season we had really had some rough racing,” noted Gabe Johnson. “We had the Bikeman guys rebuild our motor as we ran it out of water couple times earlier in the year. The front differential was also replaced after it broke at Red Bud and we have to thank Luke Fleming for getting it back together in time for Crandon. Now we have to tweak what have and hope to find a bit more top end for ERX.”
“Gabe has run well throughout the season,” commented team leader Paul Johnson. “We are learning to better analyze the data from our UTV every time out and thanks to Travis and the Bikeman guys I know we can get back on the podium. We have three tries to repeat our ERX second place performance from earlier in the year and we have every intension to get it done.”
Special thanks also goes out to Vision Wheel for not only coming onboard with Gabe Johnson’s racing effort, but the hospitality that extended to the Johnson family during the Labor Day weekend.
As mentioned, the final stop of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL is September 22-24 in at Elk River Motor Park (ERX) in Elk River, Minnesota.
Gabe Johnson would like to thank the team’s marketing partners including:
Armor Steel and Metal, Vision Wheels, Super ATV, Chad Hord Racing, Maxxis, Race-Driven, Iron Mountain Powersports, Midway Rentals, R&R Tires, and Bikeman Performance.
