Schererville, IN. – After taking a year off from short-course off-road racing, Matt Siorek returned to the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL in a brand new PRO-Light with support from Kenda Tire. The former Sportsman racer entered the PRO ranks of off-road racing after taking a season off building and preparing for the grind that is TORC PRO Light. Needless to say, Matt Siorek is ready for the PRO-Light challenge.
Siorek had spent three seasons competing in the Sportsman Super Truck division and after a truck destroying incident at the Crandon season finale in 2015, the Schererville, Indiana resident knew the money and time spent on a new Sportsman truck could go a long way with a PRO-Light build. Realizing that a totally new truck would take a fair amount of capital and an immense amount of time, Siorek went to work for Shawn Morris during the 2016 season as a crew member on race weekends. The experience gave the rookie PRO racer an inside look what it takes to race and win at the PRO level.
When April 2017 appeared on the calendar, Matt and his team were ready for the first test session of the season. Thanks to Kenda Tire, Siorek gathered valuable information about the truck and was able to get behind the wheel of his Chevrolet Colorado at speed, for the first time at the Elk River Action Track (ERX).
The opening weekend of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL in Joliet, Illinois was basically an hour from home, so there were plenty of friends and relatives on hand as Matt made his PRO debut. All of Matt’s supporters understood that the 2017 season would be a learning experience for his team and finishing both days under power would be a sensible accomplishment.
After a trying early Friday practice that saw a suspension issue cut short some of the rookie’s seat time, the remainder of the weekend went quite well. When the side by side racing began Saturday, Matt continued to move up the learning curve as kept the white Chevy on the track right to the finish.
Overnight and the next morning, the crew made several adjustments to the suspension as Matt went back to watch the video tape to understand what he needs to do behind the wheel to keep progressing through the weekend.
Sunday’s Round Two saw Siorek and his team make a nice leap forward as the truck seemed to work better throughout the .75 mile long Route 66 layout. Once again Matt was running hard when the checkered flag was waved.
“It’s been eighteen months since the last time competing at a TORC race,” commented Matt Siorek. “I know there’s a long way to go, but it feels good to be back racing. Seriously I know this year will be a learning experience for myself and the team. I can’t thank Shawn Morris for all the help and insight over the past year. I also have to thank my mom and dad for all his unconditional support and of course Mike from Kenda Tire. The main goals for the season is to finish races and show improvement every weekend when we hit the track. Next weekend is ERX, I feel a bit more confident thanks to the test time we had there last month.”
As mentioned, the next stop of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL is June 10-11at the Elk River Action Track in Elk River, Minnesota.
