Chad Rayford headed to Minnesota with the confidence that every driver should have when they climb into a race truck. Fresh of a second place finish at the season opener in Joliet, the CR29 Motorsports team repeated the feat with a runner-up finish during Round 3 at ERX Motor Park.

Rayford headed to ERX knowing he would have a slight advantage over some of his PRO-Light competitors thanks to a Kenda Tire test session at the Minnesota facility just before the start of the season. Then add the strong performance at Joliet, Chad knew “the arrow was pointing up” on his team.

After a couple of solid practice sessions, the red #29 Kenda Tire PRO-Light was ready for Saturday’s battle.

When the green flag waved, Rayford was right in the middle of a battle for third place. As the second half of the race began Rayford was now in a brawl for the runner-up spot. The red #29 PRO-Light kept up on the changing conditions of the track and made the right moves to grab the second place spot. Once again Chad Rayford was spraying champagne thanks to his second runner-up finish of the season. unnamed (16)

“ERX is really a fun track to race,” remarked Chad Rayford. “This place is constantly changing. The sand section with the dual lanes is unlike anything we race on. The high flying jumps, the banked corners, and the whoops really bring out a driver’s ability and a team’s ability to set-up the truck properly. We use this truck to try some different setups, like the special set of tires Kenda Mike grooved for us and once they are proven we put them in the truck driven by my teammate, Shawn Morris. I think this combo we will save for the season finale.”

The intensions for Sunday morning was to begin preparations for the afternoon round of racing. Mother Nature had other plans. A severe thunderstorm came through the area damaging race equipment and making a mess of the race facility. Fortunately, everyone at the track was unharmed, but the race program was postponed and will be added to the final weekend of the TORC season in September.

After three rounds of racing Chad Rayford sits third overall, just one point out of second place, in the TORC PRO-Light Championship standings.

Next race is June 24-25 at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. Remember if you can’t get to see a TORC event live, each weekend will be streamed live at torcseries.com.
