This is the big one … Traxxas TORC Series’ event-of-the-year … the race you’ve gotta win in order to be called World Champion!

CRANDON, Wis. (Aug. 27, 2012) – The World Championships of high-flying, dirt-churning professional short course off-road truck and buggy racing – aka the Traxxas TORC Series, presented by AMSOIL – returns to Wisconsin’s Crandon International Off-Road Raceway for three days of racing action this Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, and featuring the monumental single-race payout of $40,000 in the third annual AMSOIL Cup!
“Crandon on Labor Day is the absolute pinnacle of short-course racing in the U.S, and AMSOIL is proud to be a big part of the festivities with the AMSOIL Cup race - which this year boasts a $40,000 winner’s purse to make it one of the richest short-course races of all-time,” said AMSOIL Race Program Manager Jeremy Meyer. “The anticipation alone for the AMSOIL Cup is going to be off-the-charts.”
Excitement abounds at Crandon where last year (for the first time in the storied 43-year history of the pioneer northern Wisconsin short course off-road track) the 100 mile per hour barrier was shattered by not one, but three racers in two classes (PRO 4 & PRO 2) as both track records fell at the Labor Day Weekend race. And while 100 mph doesn’t seem all that fast in this day and age, try running that speed in an open wheel or stock car at a hundred … across the desert! The tens of thousands of fans that show up each day this weekend can attest to the fact that there’s no other place in the world quite like Crandon on Labor Day Weekend.
Said off-road legend Walker Evans of Crandon’s legendary World Championship races: “If you can win at Crandon, all the rest are easy.”
New for Crandon this year are an arsenal of never-before-seen jumps and added obstacles certain to keep the world’s premier short course off-road racers on their toes and the most diehard fans satisfied with the aerial action in each and every class of racing.
“You’re pretty much wide open there, flying all the way down to flat,” said Red Bull/Mopar/Ram/KMC Wheels PRO 2WD racer Bryce Menzies, the test driver for Crandon on the new Skybox Jump. “It’s going to be pretty insane when you get three trucks side-by-side hitting it at speed. But it all adds to the show for the fans and will play a huge role racing.”
Added Crandon President Cliff Flannery on the Skybox Jump: This is going to prove to be interesting. Spectators will be counting the blocks (the eight-foot long blue concrete blocks that line that portion of the track) to see how far the trucks are flying.”
Bridging the gap between action sport and motorsports, TORC Series short course off-road truck racing at Crandon delivers an edge that’ll consistently wins over Wisconsin’s NASCAR and open wheel race fans. With speed in excess of 100 miles an hour and radical jumps that throw the 800-horsepower, 4,000-pound trucks through the air half the length of an NFL football field, motorsports fans make the annual pilgrimage by the tens of thousands to the hallowed grounds here in Crandon, Wis. this week – the mecca of short course off-road racing!
