Kyle and Cody at the top of the championship standings.
Kyle and Cody Kleiman continue to show most of the PRO-Light competition their rear bumper. The Ponsse Maxxis Tire duo had a solid round of racing that saw Kyle finish on the top spot of the podium. Then due to a rather severe storm that came through race facility, Sunday’s race was postponed until the TORC Series makes its final stop of season back at Elk River in September.
The weekend started on Friday, with a bit of drama for Kyle as the #42 Ponsse Maxxis Tire PRO-Light lost a water pump during the first practice session. At first, the team thought the powerplant would need replacement, but after a thorough inspection by team leader Mark Kleiman, only a new water pump was only needed. While the repairs were performed on the #42, Cody kept the #48 on track and was able to set fast lap for the class.
The start of Saturday’s fourteen lap Round 3 event saw Cody in a battle for third place right from the start, while brother Kyle was going door to door with Carlson for the top spot. The pace of the two brothers kept both Ponsse trucks in the focus of the broadcast cameras throughout the race. When the checkered flag was waved Kyle had his second victory of the season as Cody finished a well fought fourth place.
Sunday morning saw all the teams attempting to secure all the race equipment, trailers, and awnings as a severe thunderstorm was heading for ERX Motorpark. The storm hit and it felt like a tornado. In about twenty minutes, the storm damaged the race facility and several of the race teams’ awnings. Unfortunately, Kleiman Off-Road Racing had the race awning ripped from the transporter and one of the race trucks was lifted off its stands.
Fortunately, there were not any serious injuries and TORC postponed Round 4 until later in season.
“The boys ran really well Saturday,” noted Mark Kleiman. “Cody was ready to show Kyle on Sunday that he can win as well. Then the storm came through and luckily nobody was hurt. A lot of equipment was damaged and it will put a strain on a few teams to be ready for Crandon, including ourselves. We will be there and you might see a bunch of pop-up tents in the pit area, but we will be there looking to put Ponsse and Maxxis on top of the box.”
After three rounds of racing, Kleiman Off-Road Racing is one-two in the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL PRO-Light Championship with Kyle slight ahead of Cody.
Next race is June 23-24 at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. Remember if you can’t get to see a TORC event live, each weekend will be streamed live at torcseries.com
