Kleiman Off-Road Racing: TORC Bark River Report

August 9, 2016

Every time the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL heads to Bark River the Kleiman Off-Road Racing Team feels the added pressure of having a large throng of family and friends cheering them on at their hometown track. Somehow Cody and Kyle Kleiman just take the pressure in stride, as the brothers always seem to rise to the occasion. The weekend at Bark River saw the Ponsse Cooper Tire duo have their best performances of the season.

Living just minutes from the track, the Kleiman family seems to have the largest group of fans at the track. Then add the large presence that team sponsor Ponsse has at Bark River International Off-Road Raceway makes this the most important race of the season. The perfect weather brought record crowds to the spectator hill and near perfect conditions on the track.

The weekend began with Saturday morning qualifying. Kyle qualified second fastest as Cody stopped the clock seventh quickest. This put the yellow #42 Ponsse Ironhorse Loggers Cooper Tire truck on the front row as the white and yellow #48 Ponsse Cooper Tire truck would start in row four.

The ten lap race saw Kyle Kleiman quickly jump into the lead. Points leader Kyle Hart would run a close second after the opening lap. In fact Kyle held off Hart and the rest of the field to lead every lap, taking his second win of the season. Meanwhile Cody had great battles throughout the round, bringing home his truck in sixth place.

Both trucks came back to the team’s hauler in great shape as only the usual between race maintenance was required.

Sunday afternoon was nearly a repeat for both of the Kleiman brothers. The starting grid had Kyle once again on the front row as Cody was lined up just as the day before in row four. Kyle had an incredible start and grabbed the lead. This time it was Travis Dinsmore that tried to run down the Wilson, Michigan native, but like the day before, Kyle led flag to flag. Cody had another strong run as the recently reconstructed truck is getting quicker every time on the track. After ten laps Cody crossed the finish in seventh place.

The team had their best performances of the season at their hometown track and afterwards the driver’s commented:
“Starting on the front row and getting a great start was key to both wins, ” noted Kyle Kleiman. “After the first lap I really concentrated on hitting my marks and running consistent laps. The hard work at the shop really came through this weekend. My family and crew are the keys to our team’s success.”

“I’m really get comfortable in the truck,” remarked Cody Kleiman. “Even as we ran in the middle of the pack, the racing was close, but not overly aggressive. The truck is getting faster and our solid finishes give us the momentum we need to keep moving up the standings. The support from family, friends, and sponsors is unbelievable at Bark River. The strong finishes this weekend really helps the team as we head to the final weekends of the season.”

One side note, Kyle’s lap times on Saturday would be fast enough to finish second in the following PRO-2 race.
